Windies share ODI series with Proteas after losing final game

West Indies captain Shai Hope says he is making no excuses for the Caribbean team's 4 wicket defeat to hosts South Africa in the third and final One Day International (ODI) in Potchefstroom on Monday which saw the series ending 1-1.

Sent to bat,  the West Indies were first bowled out for 260 in  48. 2 overs. Jamaica’s Brandon King top scored with 72, while Nicholas Pooran made 39 and Jason Holder 36.

Odean Smith also chipped in with 17, while another Jamaican, Rovman Powell could only muster 2. There were two wickets each for Marco Jensen, Bjorn Fortuin and Gerald Coetzee.

Chasing 261 for victory, the South Africans were led by an unbeaten  century from Henrich Klassen as they replied with 265-6 off 29 overs.

Klassen cracked 119 not out off just 61 balls including 15 fours and 5 sixes. He shared in a crucial 103 run 6th wicket partnership with Marcus Jensen who got 43. Alzarri Joseph was the pick of the Windies bowlers with 3-50, while Akeal Hosein had 2-49.

Hope and Klassen shared the Player of the Series award.

The series ended 1-1 as the Caribbean side won the second match by  48 runs, while the first encounter was washed out. The Windies missed out on  winning a first ever ODI series in South Africa.

Meanwhile, with the West Indies set to play in the upcoming 50 over World Cup qualifiers, captain Shai Hope is calling on his team to show  a never-say-die attitude

The teams now turn their attention to the 3-match T20 series starting on Saturday.
