Music genre Afrobeats is filling the void left by Reggae music on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart.
The magazine has announced its first-ever US chart for Afrobeats songs, two years after discontinuing its Reggae Digital Song Sales chart.
Many have contended that African music is slowly replacing Dancehall music, with industry players denouncing the current sound of Jamaican music.
Reports coming out of overseas markets are that the new sounds emanating out of Jamaica are not authentic dancehall, and Afrobeats has been filling the void with its easy, bouncy and catchy flair.
The Billboard Reggae Digital Song Sales chart that ranked the top-downloaded and streamed Reggae and Dancehall songs in the US was cancelled in January 2020, however, the Reggae Albums chart continues to be published each week.
The US Afrobeats Songs chart will debut on March 29, and will rank the 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the United States.
