Damian Marley secures 3rd Grammy award

Damian Marley is the winner in the Best Reggae Album category of the 60th annual Grammy Awards, held on Sunday, getting the nod for Stony Hill.

This is Marley’s third Grammy win, having previously won for Half Way Tree and Welcome to Jamrock.

The other nominees were Chronixx for Chronology; Morgan Heritage for Avrakedabra; Common Kings for its album Lost in Paradise and Hawaii-based J Boog for Wash House Ting.

In the meantime, Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar stole the show, and most of the awards, at the 2018 Grammys.

Mars provided the night's big upset, taking the album of the year trophy that most critics assumed would go to Lamar's Damn. He also won song of the year as well as record of the year.

Alessia Cara won best new artist - making her the only female artist to win a major prize.

Stars like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Lorde and SZA were overlooked, with only 17 awards out of a total of 86 going to women or female-fronted bands.

The night's performances included a thought provoking opening by Kendrick Lamar, powerful songs by Ke$ha and P!nk and Sting and Jamaican artiste Shaggy debuting their new collaborative single.

Most persons arrived for the show wearing a white rose to symbolise their support for the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, which tackle sexual harassment and inequality.

The music industry's signature event was held at Madison Square Garden in New York for the first time in 15 years.
