John Holt, one of Jamaica's preeminent singers, of the Rocksteady and Reggae genres, is dead. RJR News understands that he died on Sunday night in England, after ailing for sometime.
The 67-year-old singer recorded his first single "I Cried a Tear" in 1963 for producer Leslie Kong. In 1964 he joined popular rocksteady group, The Paragons, as the lead singer.
It was as the lead singer of The Paragons that John Holt came to prominence, before leaving to focus on his solo career in the 1970s.
