Nicki Minaj hails Beenie Man, Skeng in acceptance speech for Video Vanguard Award at VMAs

Dancehall veteran Beenie Man and newcomer Skeng were given heartfelt shout-outs by rapper Nicki Manaj as she received the Video Vanguard Award at last night's MTV Video Music Awards.

The Trinidad & Tobago-born MC accepted one of the night's highest achievements, usually given to people who have made outstanding contributions and had a significant impact on the music industry.

In her speech, she thanked a list of people who played an integral part in her journey, including rappers Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, and Doug E. Fresh.

She also credited collaborators Kanye West, Beyonce, and Rihanna with extending their platform to her.

Nicki shouted out dancehall deejay Beenie Man, who was featured on the single Gun Shot, on her 2012 album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.

And she hailed Skeng, using the Jamaican phrase 'wah gwaan', as the two have teamed up on a new song titled Likkle Miss (Remix), which is featured on her greatest hits compilation, Queen Radio: Volume 1.
