Barrington Watson, one of Jamaica's most celebrated artists, has died.
Watson, a master painter, died last night at his home in Kingston. He was 85 years old.
He became the first Director of Studies at the Jamaica School of Art and co-founded the Contemporary Jamaican Artists' Association, established in 1964.
In 2000, he was awarded a Gold Musgrave Medal by the Institute of Jamaica.
Mr. Watson's most notable works include portraits of Marcus Garvey, Frederick Douglas, C L R James, Haile Selassie, and Malcolm X.
He is the father of sculptors Basil and Raymond Watson.
