Access Financial looks to leverage technology to boost productivity

Access Financial Services is looking to technology and innovation to improve efficiency and strengthen its position in Jamaica's competitive microfinance sector.

Financial Chairman Michael Shaw says the board remains optimistic about the business's prospects despite the challenges facing the economy following Hurricane Melissa.

Speaking at the company's annual general meeting on Thursday, Mr. Shaw said despite the economic shock, Access Financial Services recorded just over $358 million in net profit for the 2026 financial year.

The company says it will focus on leveraging technology to boost productivity and introducing new products to meet the changing needs of customers.

Chief Executive Officer Hugh Campbell said cost management was critical as the company dealt with the impact of the hurricane on customers' ability to service their loans.

Despite the challenges, Mr. Campbell said the company grew its business loan portfolio by almost 16 per cent.

For the year ended March 31, Access Financial's revenue remained relatively flat at $2.6 billion.

However, operating expenses increased by nearly 14 per cent.

Mr. Campbell said restoring operating efficiency will be a major focus for the company in the 2027 financial year.
