BOJ reports $6.1b loss between January and July

The Bank of Jamaica is reporting a loss of $6.1 billion between January and July 22 this year.

The Bank says the loss reflects the difference between its administrative expenses, interest paid on certificates of deposit, and interest earned on its international reserves, which are invested at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

The latest figures show the BOJ's assets increased to $1.3 trillion in July, up from $1.2 trillion a year earlier.

The increase was driven mainly by higher foreign and local assets.

Meanwhile, the Bank's demand liabilities rose sharply to $857 billion, up from $673 billion.
