BoJ seeking to remove $22 billion from circulation today

The Bank of Jamaica is stepping up efforts to contain inflation, which rose to 7.9 per cent in August.

The central bank will seek to remove $22 billion from circulation on Wednesday by offering certificates of deposit to financial institutions and public sector agencies.

The BOJ says the certificates will carry an annual interest rate of 5.7 per cent.

The minimum investment is $100,000.

The certificates will mature on October 23, with interest payable at maturity, subject to the applicable 25 per cent withholding tax.
