Coffee farmers owed by Mavis Bank factory demand answers

Blue Mountain Coffee farmers in St. Thomas who say they are owed in excess of $200 million dollars by the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory, are demanding answers as to why they have not been paid.

The disgruntled farmers told RJR News that they were informed by the selectors at the depot Wednesday afternoon that they should not expect payment as was agreed for this week and that no date has been set for payment.

The farmers say they would normally receive payment on Thursdays, two days after the coffee beans are supplied to the factory.

They say they have been supplying coffee beans to the factory for the past three weeks and were promised payment this week.

Some 500 farmers are said to be affected.
