Copa Airlines to provide service from Panama City to JA

Edmund Bartlett, the Minister of Tourism, has announced a new connection for Jamaica's tourism market.

Starting December 11, Mr. Bartlett says Copa Airlines will be providing service between Panama City, the capital and largest city of the Republic of Panama and Montego Bay, St. James, to improve access for South American visitors.

"Copa flights through Panama City to Montego Bay will be available from 58 cities in North, Central and South America. That to me is the most extensive connectivity that Jamaica would have in North, Central and South America," he said.

Mr. Bartlett added that the partnership will boost Jamaica's arrival figures.

He indicated that the Government is mindful that there will be some minor glitches as a result of the connectivity.

But, the Tourism Minister stated that work is in progress to ensure that there's a seamless flow from the Americas into Jamaica.

"To that extent, the vexing issue of visa is being addressed and before this session of JAPEX, (the Jamaica Product Exchange) is concluded, I’m sure we’ll have a far more positive statement to make on the situation regarding accessibility of visitors into Jamaica and hopefully the region," Mr. Bartlett said.
