Tax Administration Jamaica says many domestic workers do not have a Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) on record with the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and as a result, they do not qualify to get the $20,000 available under the Reverse Income Tax Credit scheme.
Some 580,000 people are expected to benefit from the scheme at a cost of $11.4 billion.
TAJ also says in order to benefit, domestic workers whose applications have been rejected must go to the nearest NIS office to have their NIS records updated with their TRN.
This update must be completed before November 4 if these applicants are to be placed on TAJ's supplemental database in order to determine eligibility.
