Dr. Brian Langrin appointed Bank of Jamaica Governor

Dr. R. Brian Langrin will become the new governor of the Bank of Jamaica, succeeding Richard Byles, whose seven-year term ends on Tuesday.

Dr. Langrin's appointment takes effect Wednesday, August 19 following a selection process led by a search committee established in April.

He brings more than two decades of experience in central banking, financial stability and multilateral development.

Dr. Langrin has held senior positions at the BOJ in financial stability and economic research and has served as a financial stability advisor at the IMF-administered Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC).

He holds a PhD in economics from Pennsylvania State University and has published extensively on financial stability and monetary policy.

Finance Minister Fayval Williams welcomed the appointment, describing Dr. Langrin as a forward thinking leader.

Dr. Langrin says he intends to preserve the bank's credibility and independence, keep inflation low and stable and advance the modernisation of Jamaica's financial system.

He will take over from Richard Byles, who has served as Bank of Jamaica governor since August 2019.
