Former Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke will take up his post as one of the International Monetary Fund's four deputy managing directors on Thursday when he will replace Antoinette Sayeh from Liberia.
Jamaica became a member of the IMF on February 21, 1963 when it borrowed 10 million Special Drawing Rights or IMF gold valued at US$1.34.
The IMF's main role originally was to provide balance of payments support and technical assistance to its 191 members. But it is now also providing fiscal; climate resilience and poverty reduction support.
