Finance Minister Fayval Williams says the government will be required to pay back only $152.3 billion in debt this year compared with $317.3 billion last year.
As a result, the country's capital projects budget has now been increased to $163.8 billion.
As she opened the budget debate in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, Minister Williams said approximately $101 billion of this amount will be spent by the select group of public sector entities such as the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, Petrojam, Factories Corporation of Jamaica, National Health Fund and the Urban Development Corporation.
