General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Dr. Horace Chang, says the party has been deliberate in its approach to campaigning for the general election and continuing the governance of the country.

He was responding to concerns about disunity in the party in light of the apparent lack of preparedness for the national poll with a candidate selection yet to be settled in two constituencies - St. Andrew North Central and Manchester North Eastern.

But Dr. Chang said he is comfortable with the party's level of preparedness.

Speaking Thursday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106, he said there has to be a balancing act between campaigning and ensuring continuity of government.

"Bear in mind, we are government and we'll set the time table, so to speak. But the Constitution has set the time table; we cannot go beyond September...and the government have to keep running.... If you were to get too early into a campaign and ignore government, of course, we'd get battered for that. So we are working the issue. I think we have kept the government going in the right direction at the same time. The party has done its work," Dr. Chang asserted.

He said the selection of candidates in the outstanding constituencies will be settled internally.

Karl Samuda and Audley Shaw are the incumbent members of Parliament in St. Andrew North Central and Manchester North Eastern, respectively.
