The government says it is investing $22 billion in the country's water supply systems, while unlocking another $14.2 billion in private sector investments in the sector.
Matthew Samuda, Minister with responsibility for Water in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, says the Rio Cobre Water Treatment Plant is one of the major projects being funded.
This project is expected to contribute an additional 15 million gallons of water per day to St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew and Portmore.
Minister Samuda also stressed that plans are being put in place to facilitate the expansion of Mona Reservoir and the Hermitage Dam, the country's two main catchment facilities.
