The Jamaica Flour Mills has announced that it has effected the recently-announced increase in flour prices on Monday.
The increase will see the price of counter flour rising by 17%, while the price of baking flour will increase by 18%.
However, with retailers expecting to add their own mark-ups, consumers will see much higher increases.
Derick Nembhard, Managing Director of the Jamaica Flour Mills, had previously refused to announce when the increase would take effect or by how much, citing that it might lead to hoarding.
Mr. Nembhard, who is also head of the Jamaica Rice Mills, said the price of rice commodity is also expected to increase.
He is currently in Guyana negotiating prices for rice, before announcing by how much the product will increase.
