The government is looking to limestone mining to diversify Jamaica's minerals industry.
On Friday, the island made a landmark shipment of 32,000 tonnes of limestone to the United States.
The limestone being exported is the kind used in certain food and pharmaceutical products.
It is a sought after mineral which is helping to make up for a portion of the economic losses created by the fallout in bauxite mining.
Lydford Mining, which carried out the shipment, said there will be a bigger one this month.
