Jamaica's mining and quarrying exports drop 11.9% in January 2024

The value of exports in the mining and quarrying industry decreased by 11.9 per cent for January 2024.

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) says US$45.5 million was earned for that month.

That's down from the US$51.7 million recorded for January 2023.

STATIN says this was largely due to the 11.2 per cent fall in earnings from alumina exports.

This decline totaled $39.6 million.

In January 2023, the value of those exports was US$44.5 million.
