The Bank of Jamaica has reported that net remittance flows (the difference between money sent home by Jamaicans overseas and funds sent out of the country) amounted to US$1.65 billion for the period April 1 to September 30 this year.
That figure is US$44.3 million, or just over two per cent higher than the amount recorded over the same period last year.
Remittance inflows increased by 2.8 per cent to US$1.7 billion, while outflows rose by 2.7 per cent, or US$3 million.
For the month of September alone, net remittance inflows totalled US$267 million, up by just over US$12 million, or five per cent, compared with September last year.
Inflows into the country rose by US$13 million, while outflows were marginal, about US$100,000.
