J’can, head of CDF

Jamaican Lorne McDonnough has been appointed the first Chief Executive Officer of the recently launched Caribbean Community Development Fund (CDF).

The Georgetown based CARICOM Secretariat, has announced that Mr. McDonnough, who is responsible for the overall administration and coordination of activities and programmes at the Fund, began his appointment at the Bridgetown headquarters of the CDF on November 1.

Mr. McDonnough joined the CDF after serving in Jamaica's Foreign Service, in various capacities, over the last 23 years, with his last assignment being Under-Secretary for Trade in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

The CDF was set up by regional Governments to assist smaller economies cope with any adverse effects that they would experience with the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.

So far US$120 million has been contributed to the CDF by member states as start-up financing for the first four years of operation.
