Investors will shortly have more time to trade in securities on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).
In a release, the entity said, as of Monday May 27, the stock market's trading hours will be extended from 3 1?2 hours to 5 hours.
Trading will start at 9:00 a.m. and close at 2:00 p.m., giving traders an additional 1 1?2 hours to trade.
The JSE also says the Settlement Cycle for transactions, which is the process and time period required to complete a trade, will be shortened from "Trading plus two additional business days" (T plus 2) to one business day after trading (T+1).
Managing Director of the JSE Marlene Street Forrest, says these changes are in the best interest of all stakeholders.
Shortening the settlement cycle to T+1 brings the JSE in line with major markets internationally, like the USA and Canada.
The new changes will also mean listing ceremonies on the JSE will now take place at 8:30 a.m. instead of 9:00 a.m.
News releases to the market will be issued after 2:00 p.m. and before 8:30 a.m.
