Lanco advancing plans for new manufacturing plant in Jamaica

International manufacturer Lanco is advancing plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in St Catherine.

The investment is expected to create jobs and expand Jamaica's manufacturing capacity.

Lanco manufactures architectural and industrial coatings, wood finishes, adhesives and sealants.

Company executives met with representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce Fiday to discuss the proposed development.

Alberto Pérez, Managing Director of Lanco Paints, cited Jamaica’s geographic location as  “very important, having that transshipment port, the facilities to that expressway to go from south to north and north to south, and the amount of construction and developing in Jamaica during the last few years are quite interesting for us.”

Endorsement

Minister of State Minister in the Ministry of Industry Investment & Commerce Delano Seiveright was happy to endorse the proposed investment, saying it is in line with the government's efforts to attract investment, strengthen local manufacturing and create higher quality jobs, noting that “this is a sort of relatively high-tech construction initiative.”

“We’re talking about paints, adhesives and stuff like that. Chemical engineering at its best, he noted, citing it as “a good sign for Jamaica.”

“It's also a good sign for the potential export opportunities that will come from a project like this, which will certainly support the broader CARICOM arrangement,” he said, adding that this factory “is the only one that will be built specifically for the CARICOM region, and it's an international company with operations all across the Western Hemisphere.”
