Lottery scammers becoming more sophisticated

According to a report in the United States, Jamaicans involved in the lottery scam which targets unsuspecting Americans have become more sophisticated in their activities.

New Castle County Police in Delaware say they have received information that the con artists are now claiming to be associated with a major US financial institution.

Persons have received calls from a man with a Jamaican accent who claims to be from a company called Global International, which he says is affiliated with Bank of America.

According to the New Castle police, the man provides personal information about the victim to make the story more believable.

The caller then informs persons that they have won a large sum of money and must send a small amount of money to redeem their winnings.

The police have received three mobile phone numbers which have been traced to Jamaica.

They have advised residents to be aware of the scam.
