Despite a superb century by captain Haley Matthews, England women inflicted an 8 wicket defeat on the West Indies women in the first T2o international at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The West Indies women who were sent in to bat, were restricted to 146-7 in their 20 overs. Matthews made an undefeated even 100 off 67 balls, including 16 fours and a six, but the remainder of the batting failed miserably.
Mandy Mangru 17 and Shabika Gajnabi 11, were the only other players to get to double figures. Lauren Bell led the bowling for England women with 2-29.
England who were set 147 to win, cruised home at 150-2 in 18.3 overs. Sophia Dunkley led the chase with a top score of 81, while Heather Knight weighed in with an unbeaten 43.
There was a wicket each for Afy Fletcher and Zaida James. The second game will be played at Hove on Friday, starting at 12:35 pm Jamaica time.
