Main Event reports 27 per cent drop in second-quarter revenue

Main Event Entertainment Group is reporting a 27 per cent drop in second-quarter revenue, earning $306 million for the three months ending April 30.

That's $112 million less than it earned during the same period last year, as consumer spending remains soft in Jamaica's still-recovering economy.

The downturn follows reduced client marketing budgets and fewer large-scale productions.

For the half-year, revenue is down 10 per cent, while net profit fell nearly 50 per cent to $64 million.

Despite the decline, gross margins held steady at 54 per cent, helped by better cost control.

Main Event says it is now investing in proprietary events to reduce future volatility and strengthen brand equity.
