Industry Minister Anthony Hylton has lauded the management of the Montego Bay Free Zone for securing 100 percent occupancy of its offices and factory rental spaces during 2013/14.
This resulted in foreign exchange earnings of US$121.99 million, or just over J$13 billion. More than 7,000 jobs have also been created.
Mr Hylton, speaking at Friday's official opening of American business process outsourcing firm, the Elephant Group’s, expanded operations at the Free Zone, said the figures surpassed the projected 98 per cent occupancy for offices, and 94 per cent for factory space at the Free Zone.
He added that the increased occupancy at the facility will enhance growth in several areas, including employment and foreign currency earnings.
The Elephant Group's project is expected to generate an additional 600 jobs.
