Oliver Coughlan to step down as Digicel Group CEO

Group Chief Executive Officer of Digicel Oliver Coughlan is to step down.

He will demit office in December, when chief operating officer Maarten Boute will replace him on an interim basis.

Mr. Coughlan had been due to retire at the end of 2022, but remained in the post to help oversee the restructuring process.

He has been with Digicel for more than nine years, running its Pacific business before taking the helm of its Caribbean and Central America markets.

The news comes as founder of Digicel Group Denis O'Brien says he will also announce his successor as chairman of the company in the "coming weeks".

This is when the end of a debt-restructuring process that will reduce his equity shareholding to about 10 per cent is set to wrap up.

A group of bondholders are to take control of the group.

However, Mr. O'Brien says he will remain as a director and shareholder of the company.

The current restructuring will see US$1.7 billion of debt written off.

It represents Digicel's third attempt to overhaul its borrowings in the past five years.
