Petrojam reopens Montego Bay fuel terminal after hurricane repairs

Fuel distribution in Western Jamaica has taken a major step forward, as Petrojam has resumed operations at its Montego Bay Industrial Loading Rack, following for weeks of round-the-clock repairs.

The facility was badly damaged during Hurricane Melissa in October, forcing Petrojam to truck fuel from Kingston through November to keep western parishes supplied.

Brian Case, acting reliability and maintenance manager, says the reopening marks a major milestone in the region's recovery, crediting staff who worked 24/7 to restore operations.

Since Monday, the plant has resumed a full daily dispatch of gasoline, ultra-low sulphur diesel and aviation fuel.

Case says the reopening strategy focused heavily on safety and reliability, with upgrades carried out to fuel delivery equipment, strengthened storage and fuel lines, major debris removal and improvements in the perimeter fence.

During the outage, Petrojam supported motorists by sharing its fuel station finder updates on social media to help them locate operational service stations.
