Suriname's Finance and Planning Minister Stanley Raghoebarsing
Suriname's outgoing finance and planning minister Stanley Raghoebarsing is calling for a further reduction in subsidies, warning that expenditures are spiralling out of control.
Subsidies and transfers are already higher than budgeted for this year.
He told a news conference that if subsidies do not decrease, it will put pressure on government finances.
He added that while subsidies have been reduced significantly during this term of office, they should have been reduced even further.
