Tropical Battery is to offer a zero emission delivery service application through its wholly owned subsidiary.
Tropical Mobility has been awarded a J$7 million innovation grant to commercialise a service called Tropical Delivery.
The company was selected for the grant by the Development Bank of Jamaica under the Boosting Innovation, Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE) Programme.
Tropical Mobility has retained First Responders Technology to manage the development and roll out of the Tropical Delivery mobile and web app.
This will be an e-commerce marketplace that will enable merchants to create virtual storefronts to sell products delivered with zero emissions vehicles powered by renewable energy.
The first phase of the Tropical Delivery service will be launched by the end of 2023.
Tropical Mobility is investing more than J$15 million, in addition to the $7 million grant to launch the service.
The company also signed an exclusive distribution agreement with China-based VMOTOSOCO, one of the world's largest manufacturers of fully electric Business to Business motorbikes.
Phase two of the business will see Tropical Delivery adding larger battery electric passenger and cargo vehicles to its fleet.
Tropical Delivery says it is partnering with a range of merchants, including brick-and-mortar businesses and e-commerce platforms to offer delivery.
