10yr window for improvements in CSEC mathematics results

Some members of  the academic community are of  the view that it may take up to a decade for there to be an improvement in Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, CSEC, Mathematics results.

The Caribbean Examinations Council, CXC, has reported that for this year only 33 per cent of  the entries for mathematics achieved Grades One to Three.

This was a further decline when compared with the last two years.

National Mathematics Coordinator in the Ministry of  Education, Dr. Tamika Benjamin, argues that action at the early childhood and teacher training levels can tackle the problem.

This can happen within ten years
