Eleven companies and individuals have been issued licences to supply power to the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS.
The group which collected the signed licences today, comprises persons or companies that generate their own energy through the use of renewable sources of energy such as solar or wind energy.
The new licensees will provide up to 100 kilowatts of energy to the JPS at a cost.
Deputy Director General of the Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR, Hopeton Herron explained at Friday morning's meeting of the Energy Council of Jamaica where the licenses were handed out how the power supply process will work.
