More than 1,500 surgeries have been completed under the Ministry of Health & Wellness' Code Care project, which began in 2022.

Health & Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says the surgeries cleared up much of the backlog in hospitals due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We had set a target of 2,000 surgeries for persons waiting over a year. We have done 1,588 surgeries, 74.9% of targets - surgeries in hernias, historectomy, tarp or prostate, cataract and these surgeries were for persons who were waiting over a year, which has effectively cleared up a lot of the backlog, Madam Speaker," he announced.

In his contribution to the 2024/25 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Dr. Tufton disclosed that the programme will end this year.
