170 murdered so far in 2017

The number of persons murdered in Jamaica since the start of the year has increased to 170.

However, the police are reporting that several murder suspects have been arrested and charged since the recent implementation of new anti-crime measures.

Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), says new technologies and increased cooperation from members of the public have assisted the police in their crime fighting efforts.

Over the last few weeks, the police have been carrying out increased raids in hot spots to stem the crime wave.
