The Area One Police says it has recovered 19 illegal firearms and an assortment of ammunition in a 15-day surge operation across four police divisions covering St. James, Westmoreland, Hanover and sections of Trelawny.
Two gang members were fatally shot during reported confrontation police and a wanted man apprehended.
Assistant Commissioner Vernon Ellis, acting head of the Area One Police, said a number of high powered weapons were among the guns recovered.
"We saw the recovery of four high-powered weapons - AK-47s, M16 rifles, Intratec submachine gun. We saw the recovery of two shotguns and 11 pistols. Unique about the pistols, some were fitted with chips that allowed them to fire as automatic weapons," he revealed.
The JCF, in the meantime, is reporting that a Glock pistol was seized during a targeted operation in Hurlock, St. James, on Monday morning.
