32,000 Jamaicans living with HIVAIDS

Jamaica's prevalence rate for HIV remains at 1.7 percent, with an estimated 32 thousand persons now living with the disease.

The latest United Nations Report reveals that 34 million people across the world are now living with HIV and AIDS.

The recently released report says two point five million people across the world contracted HIV in 2011.

The figure is 20 percent less than the 2001 figure.

Globally 60 percent of those living with the virus still do not know and many of them live in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Zero-point-seven percent live in the Caribbean.

The Report says women continue to be the largest group with most contractions but the number of children being infected has grown significantly.

Strides have also been made in child care health and with reductions in loss of lives.

But despite this the infection continues to grow in Asia and parts of Europe.
