Jamaica had another record increase in COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with 878 new infections confirmed by the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
That's 155 more cases than the 723 recorded on Saturday, and continues a trajectory that started with 527 cases on Friday.
Arising from the latest numbers, the country's total infections now stands at 26,904 cases, of which 11,770 are active.
The parish of St. Catherine leads with the newly infected, recording 187 cases, and there were 179 in the Corporate Area (Kingston & St. Andrew).
St. Ann with 88 and St. James, 86 also had huge numbers of new infections.
Clarendon had 66 cases, and Manchester, 58, followed, unusually, by St. Thomas with 56.
St. Elizabeth also had an unusually high number; 49, while Portland and Trelawny each had 25, Westmoreland, 24, St. Mary, 17, and Hanover, 16.
The 878 positive cases came from 2,696 samples tested. This represents a 32.5 percent positivity rate.
There was also one additional death, that of a 63 year old man from St. James, taking the toll to 454.
There are currently 250 COVID-19 patients in hospital, 31 critically ill and 44 deemed moderately ill.
