State Minister for Agriculture Franklyn Witter on Wednesday presented greenhouse farmers with inputs to replace what they lost during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a 100-acre orchard at Ebony Park HEART/NSTA Trust in Clarendon to boost the country's food security strategy.
It will feature 50 acres each for ackee and mango trees.
State Minister for Agriculture Franklyn Witter says with the demand for ackee increasing globally it is important that steps are taken to ensure the country can meet local and international demand.
Mr. Witter says the ministry is to provide all fruit trees and seeds required, irrigation hoses and accessories, assistance with land preparation, technical advice and training.
Additionally, he says the ministry has relaunched research centres across the island as Centres of Excellence to advance research, technology, and capacity development in agriculture.
