Former ambassador to the United States Audrey Marks was on Friday morning sworn in as a government senator, a day after her appointment was announced.

Her appointment completes the slate of 13 government senators following four resignations over the last few months.

Ambassador Marks took the Oath of Allegiance, promising to uphold and defend the Constitution and the laws of Jamaica, and responsibly and impartially discharge her duties to the people of Jamaica.

In her remarks, Ambassador Marks said it was an honour to serve in this capacity, joining the 20 others who have "made the time and the sacrifice to be here in this Senate to serve our country".

Acknowledging the government's economic pivot, she said she is excited to be part of the process of creating legislation to drive growth.
