Another cop accused of fabricating evidence

Another police investigator has been accused of fabricating evidence.

The latest case involves a woman detective corporal attached to the St. James police division.

The jamaica constabulary force has not released the name of the female cop, but she was arrested Monday afternoon by members of the anti-corruption branch, following instructions from the director of public prosecutions.

A statement from the police high command, Monday said the female detective corporal was arrested on reasonable suspicion of perverting the course of justice and uttering false instruments.

The arrest of the policewoman followed a directive issued just last week by the Commissioner of Police for a review of all cases handled by fugitive cop, Detective Sergeant Michael Sirjue.

Sergeant Sirjue was charged on February 2 for perverting the course of justice and uttering false documents.

He was accused of fabricating evidence in the case against members of the Montego Bay-based Stone Crusher gang.

Sergeant Sirjue fled the country after his tampering was uncovered.

The discovery of the tampering forced the DPP to dismiss the case against Eldon Calvert, the reputed head of the Stone Crusher gang; his brother Gleason and Michael Herron.

Mr. Eldon and another accused Orrett grant remained behind bars as they are accused in another murder.

But a senior investigator told RJR News that Monday's arrest is connected with last week's case.

Lawyers for the men are now pressing the court to release them on bail, pending the outcome of an investigation into the authenticity of the statement.

In the meantime, the high command says it will continue to work closely with the DPP to safeguard the investigative process and to maintain utmost honesty and professionalism in all investigations.                                                       .
