According to US media reports, another large plume of Saharan dust will move over the Caribbean this week reducing the likelihood of rain.
This transport of dust is typical during summer months, and the dry air mass has also been shown to suppress hurricane formation.
Last month, a massive plume of Saharan dust swept across the region causing hazy skies and hot temperatures.
Dust from the Saharan desert is lofted into the atmosphere by storms over Africa and transported across the Atlantic within the Saharan Air Layer.
