Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Brown and egg farmers are on a collision course in light of recent price hikes.
Prime Minister Browne announced that his government is considering removing all duties, taxes, and restrictions on imported eggs, previously put in place to help local producers.
According to Mr. Browne, the proposal aims to liberate the egg market, to drive down prices.
But the Layer Farmers' Association has defended the price increase, citing higher operational costs due to increased chicken feed prices and packaging expenses.
The body also said it is disappointed in how the Prime Minister is handling the situation.
