Opposition Leader in Guyana, Aubrey Norton has told United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, that the country is a one party state as he outlined a number of concerns about governance, corruption and poverty and the need for electoral reforms.
Mr Norton, who met with Mr Blinken at the US Embassy in Guyana, following his meeting with President Dr. Irfaan Ali, said he had presented a dossier containing the opposition's views on a number of issues including food and energy security, and the country's heavy reliance on infrastructure.
According to media reports, the Norton-Blinken meeting caught the Guyana government by surprise.
Mr Norton said he also used the meeting to raise the issue of electoral reform and the need for an improved elections system ahead of the 2025 elections.
