Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting
Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting is contending that the Financial Investigations Division has been starved of resources to conduct an investigation into the financial affairs of Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness.
Speaking at a party meeting on Wednesday evening in the Kingston Central constituency, Mr. Bunting claimed that there has been no investigation into the report submitted to the FID by the Integrity Commission last year.
"That report was referred to the Financial Investigations Division, but what we have learned, not through this government, but through the International Narcotics Report that's published by the USA, is that the FID has been starved of resources. Their staff complement is only one-third of what it should be. They have no director. They have an acting director who is the IT manager, not an investigator. So what we see is that the organisation has been stripped of staff and resources, and I leave you to draw your own conclusions," said Mr. Bunting.
Prime Minister Holness has taken the Integrity Commission to court over its decision not to certify his statutory declaration over a three-year period and to refer its findings of surrounding his finances to the FID and Tax Administration Jamaica.
Prime Minister Holness is seeking a judicial review of the decisions of the IC.
