The Auditor General has recommended that the police be called in to investigate allegations of extortion and corruption being carried out by route inspectors attached to the Transport Authority.
In her special report, Auditor General Pamela Monroe Ellis said allegations of corruption were made against route inspectors accused of collecting parking fees from public passenger operators who failed to terminate in the Water Lane bus park in downtown Kingston.
She added that her team received information accusing other members of the Authority of illegally selling hackney carriage licences which had been publicly declared closed since 2018.
The Auditor General said her team did not pursue these allegations due to limited resources.
She, however, recommended that the allegations of corruption against members of the Transport Authority be investigated by an entity with the investigative authority to do so.
