Barbados is pushing ahead with plans to have the island powered entirely by renewable energy by 2030.
Energy Minister Wilfred Abrahams said the recent destruction caused by hurricanes in Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and the Bahamas underscored the need for Barbados to build resilience into its electricity grid.
He said pursuit of true resilience requires the government to consider investments in emerging technologies such as battery storage, in addition to the distributed generation of electricity through renewable sources.
