“Beauty with a purpose” says Prime Minister on Toni-Ann Singh’s victory

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has congratulated Toni-Ann Singh for being crowned Miss World.  

In a statement this afternoon, Mr. Holness said she displayed the best of  Jamaica and is indeed beauty with a purpose.

“Jamaicans everywhere are proud at Toni-Ann's accomplishment. She displayed the best of Jamaica, extraordinary talent, grace, beauty, humility, confidence and passion. Indeed beauty with a purpose.”

The Prime Minister noted that “Toni-Ann displayed poise and excellence throughout the competition and her display on the final night for allthe world to see, was superb and well deserving of victory.”

"Toni-Ann represented herself and Jamaica well as she articulately conversed with Piers Morgan, speaking eloquently about her passion and being an example for women. Toni-Ann's win gives us, so much to celebrate as a nation as we move into the festive season. We can all be proud having displayed the best of Jamaica to the world."

The Prime Minister added that the Government has supported Singh, who hails from the parish of St Thomas, throughout the competition. He said all Jamaica looks forward to her return to celebrate the win.

Entertainment Minister offers congratulations

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange has offered congratulations to the new Miss World, Jamaica's Toni-Ann Singh.

“I am so happy for Toni-Ann.  She is an outstanding young woman with a wonderful personality, a beautiful soul, and extraordinary talent.  She represented Jamaica so well during this competition and now we all have an amazing new Miss World.  Toni-Ann is clearly the best choice,” Grange said shortly after Singh won the World pageant in London today.

“Toni-Ann has made the entire country so proud.  We are all walking on air, especially the girls at the Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation location in St Thomas — Toni-Ann is so passionate about her parish and women's issues — and she has been working with us at the Ministry to make a difference in the lives of the young girls who attend the Centre,” Grange added. 

“We look forward to her year as Miss World and continue to surround her with our love.”

Former Miss World - Lisa Hanna

Member of Parliament and Miss World 1993 Lisa Hanna has hailed the crowning of Toni Ann Singh as Miss World 2019.

“Congrats Toni Ann, I am proud beyond words, all of Jamaica is proud of Toni Ann and for sure her victory has lifted the mood of the country.

“Toni Ann, Miss World 2019 is a special young lady who is not only confident, talented and intelligent but she also captures the Jamaican spirit which surpasses all understanding.

“I look forward to watching her as she carries the Jamaican flag high as she steps on the world stage being supremely Jamaican and showing the world who we really are as a people not only in terms of beauty but in terms of spirit,” Hanna .

Singh is now the fourth Jamaican to win the title following in the footsteps of Carole Joan Crawford in 1963, Cindy Breakspeare in 1976 and Lisa Hanna in 1993.
