Brigitte Foster-Hylton heart broken

Medal hopeful Brigitte Foster-Hylton suffered a disastrous mis-hap in heat six of the 100m hurdles, which highlighted the fourth day of track and field action here at the London Olympic.

The 2009 World Champion, who led coming off the fourth hurdle following an explosive start, clipped the fifth barrier with her trail leg, stumbled and just could not recover to finish the race quick enough for a spot in Tuesday semi-final.

The heart-broken 37-year-old, who was competing in her fourth Olympic Games after appearances in 2000, 2004 and 2008, entered these Games as medal favourite with this season’s second fastest time of 12.51 seconds.

A distraught Foster-Hylton who had thrown herself to the ground in frustration after crossing the finish line in 13.98 seconds could not be consoled by American competition Lolo Jones, who won the heat in a season best 12.68 seconds.

It is therefore understandable that the teary-eyed and frustrated Foster-Hylton stormed through the mix-zone.

Meanwhile, head of Jamaica’s medal committee at this Games Dr. Warren Blake revealed that Latoya Greaves, who did not start her heat of the sprint hurdle, sustain a “side strain” in training.

Team manager Ludlow Watts says the mis-hap to greaves occurred two days before the Opening ceremony on July 27.

In the end, Jamaica’s lone representative in the semi-final of the women’s 100m hurdle will be Shermaine Williams, who clocked 13.07 for fifth in heat three as one of six fastest losers.
